❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
Q: Why use Low Alpha instead of High Alpha Vitamin E?
A: High Alpha tocopherol can suppress absorption of Gamma and Delta isomers and may act as a prooxidant in isolation. Our Low Alpha blend delivers balanced antioxidant activity and superior fat protection.
Q: Is this product suitable for both human and animal consumption?
A: Yes, it’s widely used in human food, supplements, and pet food applications. Always confirm regulatory compliance for your specific use case.
Q: What makes gamma and delta tocopherols better antioxidants?
A: These isomers are more effective than alpha tocopherol at scavenging free radicals and preventing lipid oxidation in high-fat systems. While low levels of Alpha tocopherol can provide help slow oxidation, higher levels of Alpha tocopherol, particularly in the absence of Delta and Gamma tocopherols, will often act as a prooxidant and accelerate oxidation in high fat formulations.
Q: Can this be used as a nutritional supplement?
A: Yes. While only alpha tocopherol is classified as “Vitamin E,” gamma and delta provide important antioxidant support and are commonly used in nutraceutical blends. The low alpha content can be advantageous as the Tocopherol Transfer Protein preferentially binds Alpha tocopherol, and will only take up Gamma and Delta protein if no alpha is present. For this reason High Alpha products essentially block the uptake of Gamma and Delta tocopherols as the Tocopherol Transfer Protein is consumed with binding all of the Alpha present. While technically not Vitamins, Gamma and Delta tocopherols both have biological benefits to humans and animals including antioxidant benefits more powerful than Vitamin E.
